A thought on movie 5 just struck me. I've been saying for a while that the dub of it is pretty iffy at the beginning - paint jobs, one major cut, culture censorship, conversations only tangentially related to the original - and picks up dramatically after Minami has her little cry. On the other hand, the movie itself is fun at the start and starts sucking later on, when it turns into what's basically a prolonged nonsensical battle scene.
...That didn't seem to be very fair, until I noticed that actual Tamers is pretty similar to that, to a smaller extent.
Start of the season up to the point where Shaggai/Juggernaut debuts, the dub doesn't leave an amazing impression - does weird stuff to all three main characters' names, some voices take a while to get used to, forced references to previous seasons, occasionally cringeworthy dialogue (hello there, entire crying part of episode 9!). From there until a bit into the Digital World arc, it's pretty good, but not always totally faithful. It's only around episode 32 when the dubbers stop caring about adding or cutting, and shortly after that the episode plots all fall into the pattern of D-Reaper -> angst -> D-Reaper. I don't mind the latter episodes of Tamers, there were still some fun moments ("くそぉぉぉぉぉぉぉ--!" = cute as hell for some reason), but it's safe to say it went on a lot longer than it could have done.
It's not exactly the same, but the similarities are there. Not to mention that the pink sky in Mephismon's world look uncannily like the suicide jelly we all know and got bored of. Creepy, huh?
