Seeing Blitzen

drove down to serpentine yesterday to see the old man.

stopped en route at the Horseland Sale. picked up essentials : new helmet for $90 YAY, and non-essentials: purple polar fleece rug, and number holder for x-country/horse trials (like i'll be using THAT in a hurry! but at $14 i thought i should get it now). and ordered a set of fluffies for nosebands/halters. they're coming in next weekend or so.

Blitz was in the paddock by himself (millie was in the stables - she's my new horsey crush too... she's STUNNING, and will be put on the market at the end of the year... hmmm... probably WAY out of my price ranger - IF i were thinking of buying another horse! but something to think about - she's soooo divine!).

anyway, i whistled out to him several times. he called back and came right up, nickering and whinnying at me. made me feel good!

he's still got a snotty nose, but it's not like it was... the cold is just sticking around. it's mostly clear, but sometimes there's white stuff coming through. sherree will keep an eye on it and i might put him on some more anti-biotics if it doesn't clear up soon.

saddled him up and took him for a walk out along the road. he was certainly very fresh (not ridden with saddle for 6 months!) but unfortunately he wasn't any sounder... over summer he definitely seemed sound, but i guess with the cold weather, he's feeling it... he was off in his offfore, that dodgy bone chip, i'm thinking.

:(

afterwards, he was spoilt with carrots, apples, pears & molasses. i lay on the grass on my new purple rug whilst he grazed around me, and i read the new Hoofbeats magazine.

a VERY nice way to spend an afternoon.

but reminded me of why he's retired
