I'm a little dumbfounded, really. Has the guy ever actually worked with OTTBs, or are the Aus. versions really THAT much worse?

Most of them around here are broken out by dudes in western saddles. It's not like they've never had leg on. They just don't understand it as it's applied to other sports. Neither does an unbroken horse. It doesn't mean their brains are broken.

This whole thing made me want to *headdesk*.

OH MY GOSH, THIS HORSE WHO HAS NEVER BEEN RIDDEN IN THIS MANNER DOESN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT I WANT. DO IT, DAMMIT, PONY. YOU SHOULD KNOW THIS.

Cause it's totally not pretty much just like starting over with a baby.

i think a lot of ppl do think it's like re-starting a baby. you gotta re-mouth a lot of them & teach them to move away from leg etc and so on. i really don't know tho.

I don't know, maybe it's just because I have ridden racehorses at every stage of their lives/careers, and they're really not that much different than any other horse. They just need to re-learn what the aids mean. It doesn't need to be done in such a high-stress manner as the video shows. It's like learning a different language- it doesn't make it any easier to understand if you're yelling.

I realize I only spent a summer working at the track, but it's sure news to me that they apparently don't trot. O.o

Or walk, or stand still. Didn't you know? They're all crazy.

ALL THEY DO IS GALLOP TO THE LEFT. It's a well known fact about Thoroughbreds.

I really like the "They don't know how to stand!" bit while the horse he was on was...standing perfectly fine. Yeah, I get that he probably meant the fussing with the head and neck, but dude, those feet were planted.
