sooo today i took heinz, taz & the teenager to a local gymkhana for our first foray into WTC.
Taz came down to get officially measured & Emily came down to have a look & then a little ride around the grounds & a lesson with carly. Unfortunately, taz had a complete MENTAL! and went CRAZY so he was put in the norty corner & tied to the float for the rest of the day. WTF taz????? omg. how embarrassing. he has NEVER behaved in such a way with me, but as Carly pointed out, it's probably a leadership thing. he was very good in the measuring & the lady even commented on how well behaved he was, haha.
anyway, he was sticked at....
14.3 1/4hh. WTF!!! all this time i thought he was at LEAST 15hh. poo!
anyway. beejay was... amazing! he was absolutely MINTOX & completely perfect on the ring. we struggled a bit in our individual workouts, especially on the right rein towards the OMFGSCARYLALA end of the arena. BUT we coped.
we won our Hack class, which was AWESOME. against an official quality show hack (that was also a psycho, hence why it WASN'T official) who later went on to win champion Hack & it's rider won Champion Rider. i came second to her in our rider class, but i didn't challenge for Reserve because it was the end of a long frigging day.
we also got 3rd in medium-weight & 4th in pleasure hack, which was a complete surprise cos he certainly doesn't plug along on a long rein yet.
Carly's 1/4 marks. I had initially stencilled some on & she vetoed them. :( but she was happy with my shark's teeth & rosettes. Yay.
pretty as a picture. you can really see how he's building some awesome muscle in his neck. yay! and his butt is really starting to lift as well. now just me to work on! i need butt lift.
makeup on face, whiskers razored off. poor beejah. A day in the life of a real show horse!
Beejay says, "FML."
new $30 bridle. $70 reins. carly's Very Expensive browband. i did buy a new one (with diamantes! omg) but it wasn't enough apparently, lol.
canter. i fucking love this horse. have i said that before?
warming up. you can see in both this one & the one above, trying to get him to flex to the inside & not evade. i've gotta remember not to block him with my outside rein. carly's had me dropping the outside rein completely in our lessons lately too.

Warm Up. to the right is this huge bank of trees/shrubs & right behind it is the parking area. as you can imagine, nearly every horse has a conniption when it's riding past the bushes & someone slams a door or a kid screams or what have you. beejay was jumping out of his skin for the majority of the warm up so we spent a lonnnnnng time on just flexing to the inside & spiralling out. then just hanging out in the corner & rinse/repeat.

Pleasure Hack. Theoretically ridden on a long rein. beej is not quite up to scratch with that yet tho. we still placed 4th in the class, which i was amazed by. and it was a pretty big class. you can see how antsy he gets on the ring towards the right. he got progressively worse in that spot & when we went on the right rein... wowee.

Our Champion workout. it was "choose your own workout & show off your horse". ARGH!
You can see at about 3-8 seconds where he's starting to have a little shitfit. basically, he ducks his shoulder & pokes his nose to the outside & jibberjabbers with his pace. what i would normally do if schooling would be to bring his nose to the inside, chuck on the inside leg & get him to spiral outwards. can't exactly do that in a bloody workout, so any tips? also, i know forward is my friend, but i basically cannot put any leg on him when he is like this because he wants to toss his head around & he does this crazy mincy jibjab sort of pace. he started to do it here & rather than fight, i got him into canter.
good for schooling, but not good when you need to show trot!
after the workout, Carly said i should have done the whole thing on the left rein. as the judge's instructions were to 'show off the horse', so i sorta set him up for failure by doing right rein stuff.
after this i had my rider class so i schooled him on the right rein for quite a while, just getting him to soften. he was MAGIC in the rider class & we ended up with 2nd place, out of 5 or so.
