I volunteered for local radio station WORT last week and this, to help answer calls during their fall pledge drive. I had a great time seeing the studio and meeting lots of interesting people. Madison has CHARACTERS, I'm telling you! Where else would I overhear two ladies talking about their experiences at Burning Man? One of them, calling herself "Basha", went on to describe her burlesque routine...not at Burning Man, but a show in Milwaukee...yeah.
That was during the Access Hour. When Ryan came on to do the three-hour Something Wonderful, the demographics changed a bit. His show is all about electronic music, electronica, synth-pop, psy-trance, and all-around craziness. It's a fun show, and you should listen to it if you're in the area.
The girl also helping to take phone calls is in pre-engineering at UW. What's cool is she lives practically next door to the studio, and I'm a bit jealous of that. It took me a long time to get home from there. This girl reminded me a lot of when I was starting college. I was very cynical and depressed about things. And listening to her talk makes me feel wonderful to be out of school, where I can decide on my own what is important and not have it dictated to me from so many different sources. She seems like a nice enough girl but - I would rather be around people that make me feel better about the world we live in and not worse. But it is encouraging that there are girls out there that like Calculus.
