(Sorry to be so posty, but it was an eventful week and I have time to post so rarely lately.)
My baby sister, K, really is getting married and I could not be happier for her. K's bridal shower was this Saturday and although I was initially grumpy about giving up some of my vacation for a traditionally froofy event, I wound up enjoying myself and loved seeing her so happy and getting share part of her important milestone with her.
A family friend who has known us both since we were in diapers is the one who pointed out the baby sister part at the shower. She wanted to know if I was experiencing any odd or conflicted about K's impending nuptials because she is, after all, my baby sister. I understand how some people might feel that way in similar circumstances, but I feel nothing but happiness and pride for K.
I have watched K struggle through so much of her life, as she bumbled through one calamity after another, most of them self-created, that I was honestly worried she would never find long term happiness and happiness is all I have ever wanted for her. But these last few years, K has really grown strong in herself, made some extremely positive changes in her life and just blossomed in her personal, family, and career lives. Her engagement and soon to be marriage to K - yes, another K in the family :) - is just one of the latest positive steps in her life, and the one I think will bring her the most happiness. I may be biased on the whole marriage subject, but I truly believe that while finding the one right person to share the rest of your life with is not an essential key to life-long happiness, it is one of the largest and most important keys for those of us who are lucky enough to find it. I am so happy that my sister was finally lucky enough to find real, lasting love with a good man, and sharing her bridal shower with her brought all of the joy I have felt for K these last few months bubbling up to the top again.
Good job, K, and best wishes!!! Oh, and while we're at it, thank you for not having too many silly, froofy shower games at your bridal shower! Now, if we could just get Mom to relax...
