10 Things About Me (Fandom Edition)
I did this yesterday on tumblr after being tagged by htbthomas, and I had so much fun coming up with it I thought I'd post it here as well.
10 Things About Me
1) My first big ship was Jim/Pam, The Office circa season 2 and 3. I would stay up late with work the next day, reading fanfiction (which I’d never read before) and the TWoP forums for the show. It was fabulous.
2) I have a long, epic Jim/Pam story on my laptop that I will never post publicly, because it is a) unfinished, b) veers scarily in and out of character, and c) a little embarrassing now, in that way that pictures of yourself naked in the bathtub when you were a kid are now simultaneously both cute and horrifying.
3) I finally watched the first two seasons of Battlestar Galactica earlier this year, but I stopped watching when they jumped forward 2 years at the end of season 2. I keep meaning to continue watching, but I haven’t yet. It already feels like the show I loved is gone. I mean, Kara has long hair now! Adama has a permanent pornstache! Lee became fat! I can’t be expected to deal with serious changes like this in a short timeframe. (I’m sure it will kick ass again as soon as I re-start watching.)
4) I don’t understand the shipping wars in the Community fandom. Clearly, the whole cast was meant to get it on with each other. It’s a fact of nature. Deal with it.
5) I have multiple unfinished Community fanfics laying around on my hard drive. I should finish some of them.
6) I am a really slow writer.
7) I didn’t like River Song very much in the Silence in the Library two-parter, but she’s adorable with the Eleventh Doctor. I don’t know that I ship it, but do I find the pair of them adorable, banter-y, and just the right amount of tragic? Yes, yes, and yes.
8) The Ninth Doctor will forever be my Doctor. I spent most of season 2 of Doctor Who being annoyed with Tennant’s crazy eyes and stick-up hair and mostly the fact that he wasn’t the Doctor I’d grown to love. Ten eventually grew on me (very much so) but it took some time. Even today, if I watch the Parting of the Ways, when Ten shows up my initial, gut reaction is always “No!” The difference is that now I also immediately think “Oh, it’s cool. It’s Ten. I like him.”
9) I never understood the appeal of Bruce Willis until I watched Moonlighting. Action star Bruce Willis? Eh. David Addison? Yes please.
10) This summer, I plan to watch Parks and Rec (which I’ve never seen), finish Battlestar Galactica, and the boyfriend and I are also planning a rewatch of Pushing Daisies together. I’m also looking forward to the Community DVDs being released at some point. (Hello commentaries!) In the real world, we are planning on doing a lot of camping and hiking. It should be a good summer.
