After Carolyn's discovery of the maternity clothes, she'd gone to have a talk with Colonel Mitchell about a possible past relationship. She hadn't found, but there been answers none the less. Answers that left Carolyn, and later Joshua, a little disturbed, perhaps even downright creeped out. The hologram confirmed a pregnancy and a marriage and a daughter.

In the aftermath of Colonel Mitchell's disappearance, Joshua helped her clear out the stuff that needed to be cleared out. The hologram itself would be donated to someone who could make sue of it. Carolyn gained full custody of the giant dog, Max, who had already made it a habit of following her. And Joshua found himself taking care of a small mammal. A cat named Austen with a striking coloration. He'd fed her once he realized she was missing her person which only encouraged her to hang about his hut, hunting the lizards that scurried by and 'helping' to fertilize his newly planted garden.

From his position on the porch, he sees her once again stalking another lizard. "I wish you wouldn't do that," he says to her. "I understand needing to eat meet, but the lizards? Can't you stalk the birds?"
