if you heard the same advice as me about the fourth outside examiner for your committee, it must be wrong. No one was appointed to me. No one mentioned it. No one offered to arrange to find someone for me. A couple of obvious recommendations were made, and "Cagey" finally sent an email for me and I got a commitment from an art history prof., but the oversight freaked me out.
I felt so irresponsible for not realizing it hadn't been taken care of and that it was solely my responsibility. I hate cold calling people. Don't let it happen to you or your friends, it will make you want to kick things and you'll damage your shoes...
