The whole situation just doesn't cut easily; there are too many things going on there to just say that the west is provoking the near-east imo. Does it help that muslim religious doctrine calls for the destruction of any jewish state? Does it help that the Jewish doctrine says that a certain patch of sand out in the middle of nowhere rightfully belongs to them? Iran has been very adamant about being entitled to nuclear energy. Does it help that the president of such a nuclear technology hungry state has stated that Israel needs to be wiped off the map? Muslims like to cry foul and say that the west shouldn't claim to know the feelings of muslims in general based on the actions of a few extremists. Does it help that the people of a muslim state elevated a terrorist organization to the political stage, presumably to work on their political agenda which the voters felt best represented the people's desires?
The whole thing is a powder keg waiting to go up. My flippant response really belies a deep-seated cynicism about the state of human affairs. It's just all so very....disappointing and childish. Honestly, is killing each other because two books say the other side is wrong really the best we can do?
