Mikhail Afanasievich Bulgakov (Russian: Михаил Афанасьевич Булгаков; May 15 [O.S. May 3] 1891, Kiev - March 10, 1940, Moscow) was a Russian-language novelist and playwright of the first half of the 20th century. He is best known for the novel The Master and Margarita.
