through certain cycles i find myself assessing ways to spend my time more efficiently, to do more than one thing at once (they call it multitasking, but i put that word in the same category as things like 'parenting' and 'consulting'- momentary verbal malfunctions and yuppie fads) so i was listening to the radio news while arranging flowers but this goddamn thing with israel and lebanon makes me so goddamn mad i had to turn it off after a time. this ehud olmert seems like a shit, and i guess it's getting more coverage now, because when they try to glaze over it somebody says nuh-uh. so for the explanations israel puts forth, there is always a counterweight. and what weighs the scale in the palestinians' favor: things like building a wall around gaza and starving the people in the west bank and the gaza strip into submission after they elect hamas to power in a legitimate and democratic way. but hezbollah is the most organized and disciplined of the resistance forces- maybe they'll get somethign done?

BESIDES ALL THAT, i hear on the radio about israel bombing places like tyre and sidon, and who knows what they're destroying, over a poor little kidnapped soldier! these were the nerve centers of phoenicia- those same 'sea peoples' who conquered the mycenaeans a thousand years and some change before christ. (and they have our support in doing so. with this added to the trove of antiquities that have disappeared out of iraq, the united states'll be remembered as the worst caretakers of art and archaeology since the nazis. a sensationalist comparison, i know, but perhaps illuminating?)

going to see danny in a few days. i could use a break. until then: wunderkammer? gardening? reading richard brautigan, as i have been enjoined to do? my mural was a success, and now i have two more commissions: one in each of the main street market's bathrooms, and one for oliver kuttner's wife
