(no subject)

I had a plan for my letters of recommendation. A good one. Get one from my junior-year AP US History teacher, who seems to think of me as a genius; and get one from my junior-year AP Psychology teacher, who seems to think of me as a saint. The former had already agreed, and there was no doubt in my mind that the latter would do the same.

Unfortunately, they're both social studies teachers.

So, instead, my second letter will be courtesy of not my former psychology teacher but my former physics teacher. I'm concerned about this choice, not because I don't think he likes me but because I don't think I stood out as a particularly spectacular character last year. A good student, sure. But nothing to warrant the glowing letters I'd expect from the two teachers mentioned above. And it doesn't help that the Common App is so terribly interested in how students being recommended compare to other students the teacher has had. AP Physics teacher at Newport? Probably had some of the best students in the country.

Oh well. He agreed cheerily enough, and he does seem to like me. Plus, thanks to budget cuts, teachers are having to teach in other teachers classrooms while the other teachers are on break, and my AP Environmental Science class just happens to occur in his classroom; he isn't the teacher, but he's present each day. And that is a class where I do stand out. So...here's hoping.

high school, college obsessiveness
