Three Tampa teenagers were injured Saturday night when their truck hit a utility pole and rolled into a ditch, Hillsborough County sheriff's deputies said.

david Jackson, 16, was driving south on Limona Street near Victoria Street at 8:15 p.m. when he crossed a set of railroad tracks and lost control of his Ford F-250 pickup, deputies said. The truck hit the pole and a street sign before rolling into a ditch.

Jackson, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the truck, deputies said. Joshua Montgomery, a passenger, was also ejected. Montgomery, 16, was also not wearing a seat belt.

Both Jackson, who suffered neck injuries, and Montgomery, who broke his leg, were airlifted to Tampa General Hospital.

Sunday evening, Jackson remained in critical condition, hospital officials said. Montgomery was in fair condition.

A third passenger, Alex Vega, 16, was wearing his seat belt and walked away from the accident with a 2-inch cut on his head, deputies said.

The cause of the wreck is under investigation, deputies said. The teenagers were traveling at a high rate of speed, but deputies would not say how fast they were going. Deputies do not think alcohol was involved.

David Jackson is a good friend of mine, we would joke all the time, hang out and make fun of eachother, im hoping to god this isnt true. i love him and miss him. this is terrible.
