Sometimes it's the little things

I remember one day when I was at college, I came across one of my favorite professors walking under some oak trees near the quad.  I stopped to watch him for a moment because he was lightly hopping back and forth on his feet, smiling all the while.  I asked him what he was up to, to which he replied, "I'm stepping on acorns.  Don't they make a lovely sound?"  He then returned to hopping around like a little boy looking very pleased with himself.

I couldn't help but smile.  From then on, whenever I had a minute or two I would spend it crushing the acorns that lurked under the old oak trees and it was nice.  It's amazing how little things can bring you happiness.

Just now, I needed to post a letter so I walked outside in the rain down the street to the post box.  Upon my return, I get twenty questions from Chris, "Where did you go?  Why did you out in this weather?  Was the letter that important?"

Yes, it's raining and no the letter wasn't that important, but it felt nice to be outside in bad weather.  It felt refreshing and if I was five years old I wouldn't have any issues with running around in the rain.  It's only now that we're older that we find it such an inconvenience to get a little moisture on our skin and clothes.

I think I shall go out in rain again, if only to bug my husband.

Cause it's nice.
