Were the world mine = SQUEE!!
So after months of waiting for Were The World Mine to come out on dvd, i finally got mine. And as i knew it would, it did NOT disappoint. I am so glad i got this damn movie, it's amazing. It's by far the best version of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream i have ever seen, and trust me, i have seen a ton of versions of that damn play. I studied Shakespeare for 2 years in school, it's part of being a drama student lol. But Were The World Mine is really by far my favorite retelling of the story, which is really saying something. I suggest everyone see this movie, even if you're not into gay cinema it's still an amazing watch. It's funny and tragic and brilliant all at the same time. The lead actor Tanner Cohen, who's done pretty much nothing besides a five episode stint on As the World Turns in 2006, is truly amazing. That boy's voice is breathtaking, and he has stage presence. It was nice to see a musical that was not only not "big Hollywood" but also that every single actor in the movie could sing, what a change! So often musical's are only as strong as their weakest point, and once you hear that weak point it's blatantly obvious for the rest of the play. But here, there were no weak spots, everyone was well trained and on point. Even the dancers were wonderful, there are so many triple threats in this movie. Singers, actors and dancers, what a concept! The songs are all very catchy, and you'll want to buy the soundtrack right away. I know i did, but i'm a huge musical fan. I really enjoyed the balance of modern English mixed with the Shakespearean prose, and the fact that the writer didn't dumb down any of the old English. It was nice, because to dumb down Shakespeare is just really sad. It makes me wonder whatever happened to English lit classes in schools now a days. But i digress. It's a fab movie, and rather stunning to watch. It's beautiful all around, plus for the hetero girls out there, there are many very pretty boys dancing around topless covered in sparkles ^^
Go see it, rent it, download it, steal it lol, go go go. Were The World Mine, it's amazing! Would i steer you wrong? No i would not, go see it!
