Comment to this post and I will give you 5 subjects/things I associate you with.
Then post this in your LJ and elaborate on the subjects given. Don't actually comment for this, because i know so very little about everyone on my FL due to the fact i mostly just post fics. But i was given these five subjects by the amazing
fading_xhopex and i still intend to answer them :)
1. Torchwood/Doctor Who
2. Captain Jack(specifically, how you approach playing him)
3. Buffy the Vampire Slayer(specifically Tara and Dawn)
4. Firefly
5. Ginger Snaps(C'mon, it's how I first met you;))
1. Torchwood/Doctor Who
Well, really what can i say about this. I admit, i never really got the Doctor Who thing until i started watching the new series. I had seen a couple of classic Who featuring Three, and Four and their various companions on the BBCK. They show them late night during the week, and i usually would catch them when nothing else was on. I liked the lousy acting and laughable special effects, but i didn't become an actual fan until i broke down and watched the first series of new Who. After that i was hooked. As for Torchwood, that i blame Marissa for. She wanted me to join a Torchwood based RPG over on GJ, only i had never heard of Torchwood. And even though i was playing Dawn from BtVS, i still didn't like the idea of not knowing what the hell fandom the game was based in. But being a push over, i agreed to join. But when my obvious confusion about the Hub and the cells and various other things caused me to ask a million questions, Marissa sent me a link to watch End of Days just to better acquaint myself with the characters and places. It was right after EoD had aired, so the show was still fairly new. After i watched that, i knew i had to go and watch the whole series. I couldn't wait for it to come out on DVD, so i watched it online. And i guess, as they say, the rest if history. I think what stood out in both series for me was the writing and the obvious love that everyone doing the shows had for both shows. RTD had a real style to him that kind of reminded me of Joss Whedon, which i think also helped my love of the two fandoms along.
2. Captain Jack (specifically, how you approach playing him)
Well really, what's not to love about Captain Jack? He's really a character all on his own, he defies category. Which right there should make him a hard enough character to even consider playing, let alone understand. I don't really have an 'approach' to playing him in the various games that i do. As silly as this may sound, i just sort of understand him. He's an anti-hero, that's for sure. True he does what he does to keep people safe, but he didn't have a choice really. He just kind of did it because he had nothing better to do for all those years. I identify with him, because he's very uncaring. I what i mean by that, isn't that he doesn't care about people or love them. I mean, he doesn't care about what people might think of him, his actions, his thoughts. He knows what he has to do, he does it, end of story. But he's also very unhappy, tortured, and i've always had a fascination with tortured souls. I play tortured souls rather effortlessly, i think because i understand them. Plus he's got a wickedly dirty sense of humor, and growing up in my household, that's something i can certainly understand. I find i don't have to think much with him when i RP as him, whereas there are some character's i have to sit and mull over before i post. Jack's posts and comments just come without much thought on my part at all, he's just kind of in my head at all time.
3. Buffy the Vampire Slayer (specifically Tara and Dawn)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer was my first fandom that i actually participated in, although it was not my first fandom. I always loved the wit and the way they talked, plus hello, vampires, so much fun. I really liked Oz, my mother use to say i was like him, so when he left i was a little bummed out. But i remember the first episode with Tara in it, which was Hush, an episode that would have been amazing none the less. But I remember the moment they showed Tara, i was just attached to her. I knew she would be a regular, and would be close to Willow. Tara just drew me in, she's the type of person that i usually hung around with in school. I liked the quiet and shy types, they balanced me out, me being so crazy lol. But also what struck me about Tara was how beautiful she was, sure Willow as so hot (i have such a weak spot for redheads). But Tara was just beautiful, lost and sad looking. Plus she was shapely than any of the super spry actresses that usually showcased on the show, which i adored. I loved watching her character evolve, there was nothing she did that annoyed me. Even breaking up with Willow i understood, although i would have liked them to be together forever. Her death was such a shock, and remember actually gasping in shock when she died.
As for Dawn, well, what can i say about Dawn? I hated her lol. Yep, i hated her when she first arrived in season 5. I thought she was whiny and annoying, actually i still think she's a little whiny. But i loved what she brought to the characters around her, the love she invoked from everyone, even Spike. I didn't actually jump on the Dawn bandwagon until after the show ended, and i bought the DVD's. I don't know how it happened, but she suddenly was one of my favorite characters on the show. So combining her and Tara in the same episode was like heaven for me. The two of them together were so beautiful, and had such an amazing loving friendship. They're just two great characters.
4. Firefly
Ah, Firefly, odd little story about how i got into Firefly. When it was on television, i had never watched an episode. I didn't even know what it was, or that it was Joss who made it. I was completely clueless. Then Serenity came out, my brother wanted to go see it in the theater. He tried to drag me to see it, i wouldn't. Months went by and it was finally released on DVD, which my brother then bugged and bugged me about renting to watch with him. I fought it tooth and nail. Since i had no idea what it was, all i had to go on was his vague descriptions of what it looked to be (since he had never watched Firefly either). He told me it was a western set in space, to which i said BLAGH! Westerns have always been my least favorite genre ever! I use to have to watch them with my father when i was growing up, hence the hate. But after weeks of bugging me, i broke down and rented for him. We curled up and watched it, and i couldn't believe how great it was! I watched it a couple times the week before i had to take it back to the store. My brother started teasing me about him being right and me being wrong, the little snot. Normally i would fight him on that, but this time he happened to be right. After that i looked into the movie and found out about Firefly. I attempted to rent it, but it was out, damn it! So i did the next best thing, i read all the shooting scripts online lol. Yeah, i read the whole series of Firefly before i ever saw the show. I didn't actually get to see the show until my sister bought me the series on DVD for my 20th birthday. I was hooked, yet again. River, of course, was my favorite character. I love tortured characters, so obviously she was the one i liked the most right off the bat. Mal of course was a close second. I've played both River and Simon in RPG's before, River was a challenge, which i enjoyed to no end.
5. Ginger Snaps (C'mon, it's how I first met you;))
First off, we first met because of Ginger Snaps? Refresh my memory about that hun, 'cause i'm sure there's a story there lol. Anywho, Ginger Snaps. Oh how to explain my love for this movie and surrounding fandom? I rented it from a corner store when i was 15 and watched it with my older sister and her then boyfriend (who ended up being her husband later on) in the basement, how fitting considering the movie lol. I identified with Ginger instantly, but not only with her, but Brigitte as well. Which was odd at the time, since i was young i tended to be one of those annoying fangirls that only stuck with one character, ya know? After that i just became one of Katharine Isabelle's biggest fans, i see everything she's in. I think she's an amazing actress and i of course find her just stunningly beautiful. I went and saw Ginger Snaps 2 when it was in theaters, but was a little disappointed at the lack of Ginger scenes in it, but found a new joy in the amazingly acted Ghost character. The third movie brought back a much more Ginger centric plot, which made me happy. And i even enjoyed the fact that it was a prequel, but i'm a sucker for period movies and dramas lol. It was sad to know that they were ending at three, although that's good, wouldn't want the fandom to get stale. Although there's been rumor flying around for years about a tv show or another movie, but i think it's all bullshit. Alas the only way to see Katharine Isabelle and Emily Perkins play sisters again is by either watching the movies over again or renting Another Cinderella Story which is a horror to sit through but worth it for the two of them.
