Desert Island CD's

Alright. Taken from _ronor, I will make my own desert island CD's list. These CD's are the ones that I can listen to over and over and over again, and never get sick of. So here it goes:

(In no particular order)

MODEST MOUSE-Good News For People Who Love Bad News
I got this cd about 2 years ago and was amazed! I love every single song on the disk. I think I love this cd so much because of the horns in many of the songs. My sister calls them the "dirty horns" because they sound so raw and rough. I like this album better than their previous The Moon and Antarctica. There are several songs that i really from that one, but I don't think it works as well as an entire album.

ARCADE FIRE-Funeral
This one is a recent find. My brother and sisters both told me about this band around September. My brother actually had the chance to go and see them live in Vancouver, but being the fool he sometimes can be, he didn't go :) This album is so different from anything else that I listen to. It has something that just clicks, and I love it.

RADIOHEAD-Kid A
This one was a tough choice. I love all of Radiohead's cd's, (well...minus Pablo Honey, although it does have a few good moments). This one tops them all with songs like How To Disappear Completely, Idioteque, The National Anthem, Everything in it's Right Place, and Motion Picture Soundtrack. The album is amazing as a whole and it goes away from the more traditional "rock" sound from OK Computer.

SIGUR ROS-Takk
Alright...you may disagree with me here, but I think this is the absolutely best sigur ros cd. I wasn't much of a fan of Von (actually, it made me very nervous and uneasy when i listened to it), but their next two albums were beautiful. The thing that made me choose Takk, was the overall hopeful, somewhat happyish tone of this album. Their last two albums were much more down, and although they are beautiful, they can be depressing. Takk all the way!

BOB DYLAN-Highway 61 Revisited
So far, I have most of Bob Dylan's albums from the 60's and 70's, so this was an extremely hard choice. His Live 1975 album is what really got me into his music about 3 years ago. Then I started buying everything that I could get my hands on. Highway 61 Revisited is probably one of his most popular albums from that time period, and for good reason. It has the great, but much too hyped song, Like a Rolling Stone, Tom Thumb's Blues, The Ballad of a Thin Man (one of my personal favorites), and the amazing Desolation Row. These are the highlights for me, but every song is fantastic!

TOM WAITS-Nighthawks at the Diner
This is the kind of album that I think most people will either love or hate. Tom's voice and his storytelling is what turned me onto him, but for many these things will turn them off. His band has got so much soul, with jazz, swing, and blues all combined into one. His ability to have the crowd (it's a live show) and the listener follow his every word is uncanny. To be able to see this guy live would be a dream!

BILLY BRAGG & WILCO-Mermaid Avenue
OK. So, way in the 1940's and 50's Woody Guthrie wrote tons of songs that he never had a chance to write music to and record. Billy Bragg and Wilco teamed up to give Guthrie's lyrics some music, and they created two albums with these songs. The combination of Guthrie's lyrics with the music composed by Billy Bragg and Wilco is a fantastic fit. I love everything about these albums. You should all listen to them!!!!!

Alright, that's it. There is snow on the ground here and it's chilly, so this was a good day to think about my desert island cd's. Everyone should check them out, and make their own lists.
