but sometimes time doesn't work like it should
and so we wander aimlessly and timefully
aware of the minutiae and forgetting the details

and so the years become moments
and hours become breaths
and wisdom becomes what other people said
and you're left holding the ball

the months were changed to protect the guilty
but sometimes guilt doesn't work like it should
and so we blame pointlessly and regretfully
ignorant of justice or truth or the balance

and so the balance becomes fetid
and patience becomes soiled
and ignorance becomes what other people did
and you're left maintaining the lie

the months were changed to protect
but sometimes all it takes
is a forgotten ball and a lonely mind
and a little shadow to hide behind
