World Whisky Advent Calendar PT2

Dec 15, 2020 20:10

As promised, here are my continued notes on 5 further days of world whiskeys.

• World Whisky Blend (That Boutique-y Whisky Company)
https://www.thatboutiqueywhiskycompany.com/blog/worldwhiskyblend

Traditionally distillers and bottlers blend whiskeys to create a specific flavor or maintain it across multiple bottlings. This was an odd duck blending multiple whiskeys from across the world. Perhaps a better palate than mine could speak to its unique character but I found it rather average-a beverage distinguished by its pedigree rather than its singular experience.

• Copper Republic Single Grain Whiskey

This was interesting if not exceptional. It had lighter notes but suffered from a lack of aging. Worth a try if not repeat buys.

• Teeling Small Batch

This was excellent-so good I wish I had more than a sample. It was rich and flavorful-obviously drawing character from aging in rum casks. I’ve always loved good Irish whiskey and this was something I’ll be looking for again.

• Starward Solera

Ah, the good stuff😉 I never thought I’d be loving a Scotch derivative from Australia but this proved me wrong as several of these offerings have. This has a nice nose and a beautiful taste. The finish is a little lacking-short as if it runs out of gas just before the end-but has a rich smooth complexity to it.

I misidentified one of my bottles so I’ll have to come back when I figure out which one it was. Anyway, there are lots more in the box😉
