Some of you know this already, but I thought it was important to let everyone else know that my brother, River, isn't here anymore. He was the beautiful white dragon, but the first time he was here, we were born together. I called him my little brother, but you know, I think he was much, much older than he looked. It doesn't make sense, ( Read more... )

Pleased to meet you, Miss(?) Rosalind. I am not strictly a new face, as I have been here for two months, but I do not believe we have communicated before. What you wrote about the Watch interests me. If you do not mind sharing, what facilities would this Watch house be equipped with?

That's right, I'm a miss! Not a Mrs.

Hmm...well, we'd need some offices, and a break and locker room for the officers, and a few cells. Not for the big crimes, but when people drink too much or steal small things.

Are there no plans for installation of a system of sorts so that watchfolk can telecommunicate faster than having to go door-to-door in case of emergencies?

Like phones?

Phones, beepers, radio, or other sort of wireless communication devices would be preferable, if the installation is any way possible. [Phones with a cable? Doesn't cross her mind at all.]

I don't know if anyone has those here. People find machines and other things in the scrapyard, but I'm not sure if we could even set up a network here.

I suspected so.

How about light signal? Or perhaps you have a personnel with that "magic" power thing I keep hearing about that can substitute for a network.

The journals work pretty well. Don't you think? Most people who do really important jobs keep an eye on them, so they know what's happening.

The journals are useful, but we cannot expect all watchfolk to keep an eye on them 24/7, can we? But in the event of something like the recent murder, I think that having an alarm or signal to catch their attention faster would be beneficial.

I suppose it would. Do you have any ideas? I know more about forensics than gadgets.

I'm studying something called 'ham radio' now, but I haven't got it to work. But I can think of something with light signals. Perhaps it would be easier to explain in person.

Ham radio? A meat radio?

No. [Okay, Watchgirl. Despite reservations towards how your organization works, that breaks the ice a little.] Well, to tell the truth I don't really know why this book call it 'ham radio'. It uses electromagnetic waves on radio frequency for telecommunication. Like a wireless phone, I suppose, but simpler.
