When she wanders in to find her boy already downstairs, and breakfast already made, she smiles wide - her scent probably alerts Icarus early enough that she's on her way, if not the sound of her footsteps and her characteristic gait.
"--- Icarus," she says, and there's wonderment in her voice. "-- Were you waiting for someone?"

Should she open the card, it's very simple with 'Happy Mother's Day' written in his painfully neat text that slants slightly to the left.
The waffles are set down in front of her. "Here you go! Juice? Or tea? Or milk?"
