Here is one of the most quoted bible passages I know of in the 5 versions of the bible I meantioned in my previous post, so you can kindof see what I mean. All but the NRSV are from Biblegateway.com. The NRSV I typed from the hard copy in front of me.

I really don't know why they leave out 5 and 6, they're good as well.
Heres from the NAB:
The LORD is my shepherd; there is nothing I lack.
In green pastures you let me graze; to safe waters you lead me;
you restore my strength. You guide me along the right path for the sake of your name.
Even when I walk through a dark valley, I fear no harm for you are at my side; your rod and staff give me courage.

NLT's translation of the second part of the first verse is odd, because it doesn't make a statement about intentions or actions, merely status. The NAB translation is similar, though "nothing I lack" gives offer a rather different feel from "all that I need."

as for the meanings conveyed, I'm all for the valley of the shaddow of death. In a dark valley, I need a flashlight. When I'm standing in the shaddow of my ultimate terror, I need GOD.

When it comes to that passage though, I think the impact of 4 is undermined by leaving out 5 and 6.
