why are birds always so perky? ]
[music| jorane - ghost ]
i woke up early, so with nothing else to do but roll around in agony, i read some more of
i'm really close to the end; about sixty pages away, and in the middle of the final battle with the Skaldi, right.
so. d'Aiglemort and his cavalry charge inward to meet Selig and thirty thousand howling Skaldi bastards. d'Aiglemort's aiming for Selig all the way; he ends up wading into the fray, alone and majestic in his sword-swinging desperation. it is intense. his horse is killed, and everyone thinks d'Aiglemort is most certainly dead as he's buried under a mountain of Skaldi. but no! he fights his way up, eyes still on Selig, a Skaldi axe in one hand. he throws it at Selig left-handed, i turn the page, and - !
...
He killed the horse.
i had to take a five minute reprieve just to laugh. i mean, really. the tension was building, the reader's immersed in this battle, and you come to the end of the sentence thinking d'Aiglemort's going to toss this axe and take off Selig's head. but no. he just ends up killing the HORSE. *fdg* i was amused.
edit: DAMN IT. what is with all my favorites always dying? >(
edit again: holy shit, finally finished. reading with the lights off in a normally dim room is not recommended for anyone with a brain. XD and, because someone (
artemisgoddess, i believe?) asked for a sum up of what happened:
like i already said, Waldemar Selig and the Skaldi got their collective ass handed to them. after that, Ysandre was all, "Whoo! Political intrigue time! And by the way, I'm getting MARRIED YAY." okay, a tad more mature then that. anyway. Melisande gets ratted out by her own House and is dragged in for questioning; hours before her execution, she escapes with the help of some mysterious douchebag who is suspected to be someone everyone knows and trusts. insert sub plot of the second book here.
then, Ysandre (Queen of Terre d'Ange) marries Drustan (Cruarch of Alba), Phèdre inherits Delaunay's childhood property, Joscelin stays with her, and Grainne takes Eamonn's head so she can return it to Alba, although that in itself isn't a very important plot point. ^.^
finally, Melisande has to have the last laugh by posing the challenge to Phèdre in the end, so she gets all uppity about solving the mystery. and that, as they say, is that.
