I didn't join this round, and somehow I'm regretting it since look minor characters! Come here, baduk team! Come here Shirakawa-san! It's time to finish everything I didn't finish in round 1. >_<;
True! I wibbled on joining because I signed up for team7's challenge earlier this month, so I didn't think I can focus on both for December. ^_^ Is the May deadline going to be on the fifth for HikaGo day?
anonymous just in case I do this, and why make it any easier for people? *grin*
Since we're using the same nickname for all our pieces this time 'round, can the pieces be linked? A loosely connected series for example, or do we have to come up with a unique idea for all of them?
Are we allowed to claim we used the minor characters theme if we didn't reference the character by name, but by situation? For instance, if I mentioned the go pro who tutored Hikaru, Akira, and Yashiro before the Hokuto Cup, but didn't mention it was specifically Kurata. Is that okay?
Looking back on it now, the instance I was referring to for this didn't matter at all since I *did* refer to another minor character by name in the same fic. I feel stupid now, but that's okay.
I still can't believe I managed to fit *all* the themes in 1000 words.
I'm kinda miffed that "smut" and "amnesia" are too specific to be themes, but "the vivid tulips eat my oxygen" and "the island of Crete" aren't. Must they be tulips, or just flowers? Can we reference the Cretan myths without explicitly mentioning the island?
Also, in the event of a tie, do we get polled over which fic met the themes most seamlessly/suitably?
Well, the theme wasn't just "amnesia" but a request for a very specific kind of "amnesia" fic, and "smut" doesn't really leave much opening for the kind of fic to write either. While "vivid tulips eat my oxygen" and "island of Crete" may sound precise but can be pretty much interpreted anyway you want. (You can see more examples of themes, and answers to themes, at various theme challenge communities such as 31_days or 30_kisses.) Since the use of themes are pretty subjective and some more subjective than others, in the case of a tie, both winners will receive prizes. In checking to see whether a theme was really used, we will only raise an objection if we really can't see absolutely any connection and even then the author will be allowed to provide a justification or explanation first.
Of course, you can argue that "crossover cameo" and "minor characters" don't leave much opening for the author either, but the mods decided to exercise their arbitrary judgment on those since they especially want to see them in use. XD
