The Lord's commands for his prophets seem to be always so poetic, physical and bizarre. They seem to defy human logic, just like the parables that Jesus used. In this passage, He commands Ezekiel to lie on his sides for a number of days to "bear the sin of the house of Israel". There will be a shortage of food and drink and Israelites "will be appalled at the sight of each other and will waste away because of their sin."
Here, they are physically wasting away because of a lack of food - punishment for their sin.
And HERE, we're wasting away because of our spiritual well drying up - again, consequence for sinning.
Not much of a difference really.
