Coincidences

King David - "Here I am, living in a palace of cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent." - 2 Samuel 7:1

I just found this verse very funny and ironic. Despite David's faults, he really thinks of the Lord not just as an entity to obey but as someone whom he loves and cares for. His statement serves also as a question. Why is God's ark in a tent when He's given me a palace? God gave David the riches. God made him King over Israel yet He didn't think of owning a grand temple.

"I have not dwelt in a house from the day I brought the Israelites up out of Egypt to this day. I have been moving from place to place with a tent as my dwelling. Did I ever say to any of their rulers whom I commanded to shepherd my people Israel Why have you not built me a house of cedar? I took you, David, from the pasture to be ruler over my people. I have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies from before you. Now I will make your name great, like the names of the greatest men of the earth......... I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, who will come from your own body, and I will establish His Kingdom.... I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever."

The Lord's answer tells David that He cares naught for the riches of this world but for the welfare of his people. David's thought for God has earned him an everlasting Kingdom in Jesus. I can only think of one word to describe this relationship - sweet.

Now, some people say the meeting of people in this world is not random. I think it's very well to say that when it's someone who is kind to you. Who would say "this must not be random" with a happy face if you meet a terrible boss or a treacherous friend? As a Christian, I probably should think that no meeting is random but even a non-random meeting means nothing if you don't do anything about it.

There's this shop at the food court that I always visited while working in coles. The boss was very kind and always gave me discounts, thinking I was hard working to work and study at the same time. Buying food and acknowledging each other with a smile really brightened my day. Today, I told him I'm leaving and he kept persuading me to stay, saying how much better it is here and how much harder it would be to want to come back. I think to myself how rare it is for strangers to care for one another like that. If everyone's like this, even a harsh life would be filled with happiness.
