Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood

"This pain is nothing..... Compared to what he's given up." - Edward Elric in Full Metal Alchemist

I've just recently caught up to the latest episode of Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. I kept putting off watching this series as its earlier episodes are exactly the same as the first series'. But now I don't regret watching it. It was easy to get into it once I started from the episode that deviates from the anime original first series.

This series, basing everything on the manga material, has a lot more details in the world of FMA. It also runs a faster pace than the first series and lacks the finer point of emotional punch that the series delivers. I think watching many episodes in one go helped to get that emotional flavour.

I'm impressed with several points here:
- The writer's story, a story that explores immortality and human flaws.
- The writer's execution of the story + characters. He uses fantastic characters to keep the story entertaining yet serious and (it's quite educational) philosophical at the same time. The story has plenty of action to draw in those who thirst for action. It's got themes and issues to draw in those interested to learn and explore the deeper meaning of the human world. It's got vivid and dynamic characters to bring the whole thing to life.
- The Animation studio did a splendid work on not only the animation but also the emotional evocative music. Such beautiful music.

Determination. Resolve.
Lastly, or maybe not, Edward and Alphonse's determination to obtain their goal. I'm constantly amazed and awed at their resolve despite the extreme hardship they face, each wall higher than the last. They risk their lives to discover more clues. And when they find out the ugly truth (partial truth), they're willing to put aside their goal for the sake of others. The emotional as well as physical journey they take is perilous and treacherous, yet they keep forging on. Edward faces his biggest obstacle in the latest episode. I never expected him to come so close to death, yet he did. But he didn't give up. He was willing to shorten his lifespan to gain what little time he could, just so he could take yet another step further. *sniff* Everytime I watch him, I gain renewed determination in the difficulties I face........ which of course, is nothing compared to his. Such an apt quote........ Look at the pain others suffer, and realise yours is nothing. Don't get stuck in your own worries. Take a step and do something about it!
