That's EXACTLY what we had this morning. Yay for teaching in Pasadena. And a few kids were caught carrying things they should not be carrying, like a knife, marijuana, and a gun. A loaded gun, kinda like a BB gun, but that's not what they called it. Anyway, whatever it was, it was loaded this morning and an 11 year old child had it with him. oh yes. If I had forgotten about the area of town that I was living in this metal detector drill brought me back down to Earth. That is some bull shit.
In other news, me and my roomie got approved for our apartment!!!! :) That I'm stoked about! I cannot wait!
And tonight we had our 2nd performance of the semester. I wonder if stage fright (for me!) ever gets easier. I had forgotten what it was like to get that nervous...I was a mess for me recital but that was a HUGE deal because if I passed I graduated, if I fell flat on my face I wouldn't graduate. I think I may have been just as nervous getting in front of children and conducting, mostly because the parents out on the audience probably thing I'm a joke - I look like one of the students. It doens't help that I wear a pony tail, but I don't have time to do my hair!! I'm so proud of my kiddos. There were some scary moments but they handled it like professionals - don't panic, find the right spot, and keep going. And they did just that. Ah the art of faking. They were nervous, I could tell, and they told me "Miss, I messed up!!" , and I said "What? I couldn't tell! Ya'll sounded great!" Then they said, "Miss, I messed up but I kept going!" And I was like thank you Lord because that's what it's all about. Just keep swimming!! So I told them how amazing they sounded, and then the band teacher proceeds to tell me how the sound WORLDS better than they did with their previous teacher, and how much they've grown musically, and I could not be a prouder momma! :)
Now I must eat, sleep, and wake up and do it all over again.
