After making plans to visit his mother -- the Piper who actually gave birth to him, not the Piper he met at Fandom -- later in the week, Wyatt figured he'd better talk to Isabel and tell her about it. Because if he didn't, he'd be all angsty about turning evil and she'd kick his ass. That and he needed someone to talk to, someone who wasn't Chris ( Read more... )

Isabel had been going through the course catalog and debating summer plans when the phone rang.

"Hey you. What's up?"

"I think I'm still getting syrup out of my hair," Wyatt said. The pancakes over the weekend had been a little messy, and his wee self had resisted Diane's attempts to get him to take a bath.

"It's your own fault for claiming you were allergic to water," Isabel grinned. "You realize that picture of us is going up on the wall don't you?"

"Just one?" Wyatt said. "I thought it was going to be a whole roomful with the number of pictures your mother was taking."

"She did go a bit overboard didn't she?" she laughed, thinking back on the number of times she was almost blinded by camera flashed. "I'm just thankful that it was weetiny wackiness. I'm not sure how well she would have coped if we switched genders again."

"Probably not as well," Wyatt said. "But you know if that happened I'd have to hit on Max and Michael just to see if I could make them flail."

"Maybe Christian could do it? But not you." At least she didn't think so. "Besides, nothing could top the time Jack Harkness hit on Max during Parents Weekend. If Max could have oozed through the floor in a puddle of embarrassment he would have."

Wyatt snickered. "I'm sorry I missed that," he said. "But, uh, speaking of families and mothers, I'm planning on seeing my mother this week. My real mother, I mean."

"You are? That's good." At least Isabel thought it was. Having always lived with the fear of having to run in order to keep the people she loved safe, she felt always felt bad for Waytt's mother. "Isn't it?"

"I had a really weird dream-thing the other day," Wyatt admitted. "And I wanted to talk to her about it. See if it was as real as I think it was."

"Weird dream thing?" That didn't sound good. "What happened?"

"I think being a kid again made me start to remember something," Wyatt said. "So I tried to meditate on it and remember what it was. But it didn't make any sense. I was a kid but Chris was an adult. And someone killed him."

"You're right. That doesn't make sense," Isabel agreed. "Maybe it's just too much weirdness in too short of a time messing with your subconscious."

"Maybe," Wyatt said. "But I figured it couldn't hurt to talk to my parents about it. It felt really real." He sighed. "Maybe it was just anxiety, though. There was an Elder chasing me around, trying to kill me because I was going to turn evil."

"Kill a little kid? Because there was a chance you could turn evil?" Isabel was outraged on Wyatt's behalf. "That's stupid." And way too much like a fixed destiny for Isabel's taste. "Talk to your parents. I'm sure they'll have some answers for you."

"Do you want me to go with you?"

"Sure," Wyatt said. He'd been trying to figure out how to ask her without sounding emotastic, because depending on how this conversation went, he just might be in sore need of Isabel-shaped snuggles afterward. "Are you free tomorrow night? I could come pick you up...."
