Room 306 and beyond, late Tuesday afternoon

Apr 15, 2008 20:08

After they managed to free themselves from the webs Chris had stuck them in (which took some doing), Wyatt and the others tried to brainstorm on what to do. They could hunt down Chris and feed him the antidote, but he wasn't exactly willing and he wouldn't be easy to catch. Then Bridge pointed out that Chris was also four years old and in San Francisco, and feeding him the potion would be easier and would in theory inoculate his future self against the spider venom.

So when the antidote was ready, Wyatt looked at Summer. "All set? Let's get this done so my brother isn't a spider bitch any more."

Summer"Yeah, it's really not a good look for him," Summer said. It was her way of agreeing.

Wyatt"You're orbed before, right?" Wyatt asked, because it was always such a fun experience for people who weren't used to it.

Summer"A few times," Summer replied, though she wasn't sure she'd ever get used to it.

WyattWyatt held out his hand. "Okay, good, you don't need the speech then. Chris should be in daycare right now if I remember right. They probably won't let us just walk up and give him something to drink, so we'll have to be sneaky."

Summer"Sneaky is good. I'm not so much in the mood to get vanquished by your mom," Summer added, taking his hand.

Wyatt"Yeah," Wyatt said. "If she has anybody watching over us at this point, she'll think we're demons or something. All right, hang on." He orbed them to San Francisco, just outside his brother's younger self's daycare.

Summer"So how do we get in there without people being suspicious of us?" Summer asked, spotting the daycare.

Wyatt"It's a nice day," Wyatt said. "They'll probably let the kids out to play sometime soon."

Indeed, after about five minutes, the doors opened and a group of children spilled out into the playground, under the watchful eye of their caretakers. One of them was definitely recognizable as a wee Chris.

SummerSummer spotted him and couldn't help smiling. "He was so cute then...now? Timelines confuse me."

Wyatt"Then for me, now for you," Wyatt said. "It's 2008 here. I would be in kindergarten right now, a couple blocks from here."

ChrisWee Chris, sucking on a straw in a juice box, was standing off by himself. Wyatt used a little TK to cause a spill on the picnic table so that the adults would be occupied cleaning that up, then nudged Summer a few feet away so they would be out of line of sight. "Hey, Chris," he called. Chris looked up at him. "Come here," Wyatt said, beckoning to him.

"Not s'posed to talk to strangers," Chris said.

SummerSummer wondered why Chris had to be a smart kid. Kneeling down so she was level with him, she gently said, "I know you're not, but we're not here to hurt you. I promise."

ChrisChris looked at them expectantly. "Who are you?"

Wyatt"This is Summer, and I'm . . . Matthew," Wyatt said, using his middle name. "We know your grandfather. We just wanted to come by and visit you."

Chris"I like your name," Chris said to Summer, which just made her smile more.

SummerShe eyed the juice box. "I bet that's really good, huh?"

ChrisChris nodded. "Want some?" he said shyly, holding the box out toward Summer. Wyatt rolled his eyes a little. His brother's ability to be smooth with girls was still about the same as it was when he was four.

Summer"Sure I would," Summer replied, taking the juice box from him. That was easier than she thought it'd be.

WyattWyatt crouched down beside Chris to distract him. "I know you're sad that your mom and dad are gone," he said. "But everything's going to be okay, I promise. Your grandfather will take good care of you, and you're going to grow up to be really smart. Just hang in there, okay?"

He paused, then added, "And listen to your brother, because he's always right."

ChrisChris nodded gravely. To the first part, at least.

SummerSummer took that opportunity to quickly make the switch. She hid the old box and replaced it with the antidote. Then she handed it to Chris. "Thanks for sharing. That was nice of you. Now how about you finish it for me, okay?"

ChrisChris nodded, already taking a sip.

Wyatt"All right, you go back and play," Wyatt said. "Be a good boy, okay?"

Chris"Okay!" Chris said before running off.

SummerSummer watched him for a moment. "I hope this works. I really want Chris back."

Wyatt"It should," Wyatt said. "Let's go back and make sure, though." He nodded toward a hidden spot around the back of the building.

Summer"Okay." Summer nodded, already on her way over.

WyattWyatt took her hand, and once they were out of sight, he orbed them back to Fandom.
