So I got home about 30 minutes ago from our 4 night/5 day cruise, and I must say that it was quite enjoyable. If you would like to read about the enjoyable time I had, continue reading the entry; if you think you will be bored, just skip this entry altogether and wait for a new one (lol).
So I left on Thursday morning at about 5:30am. I didn't get much sleep that night since I spent most of it on the phone with John (but it was worth it). Anyways, we had to take the most bizarre route to Logan thanks to the shotty work done by our Big Dig workers.
We landed in Fort Lauderdale and were instantly overcome by the heat and humidity. As far as transportation to the ship and then registering, it was a fairly easy process. We've been on cruises where it was somewhat of a pain, but thanks to my mom registering online and also thanks to my grandmother being driven around in a wheelchair, we were able to get onboard pretty fast.
So anyways, we looked on our cruise cards and on our dinner table assignment, there was no number. My mom and I headed down to the Fair Lady Dining Room and he said he'd put us at a table with a nice family. Six person table. So 6pm comes around and we walk down to dinner, all of us looking snazzy in our halter dresses and whatnot. About 5 minutes later the other family walks in - a mother, father, and son. They're from Atlanta, but their son (Zane) was about my age and lived in Los Angeles. He moved out there since he's an aspiring actor and actually has a role in an independent film that will be starring Harrison Ford. Anyways, we got along pretty well. Zane and I bonded over a love of movies, sushi, and dangerous activities. We actually do have a picture together from formal night, thanks to the photographer who thought we were together. We tried to tell him we weren't dating, but he didn't understand, so we said what the hell and took the picture.
Most of the shows on the ship sucked. They did this whole movie musical to stage deal which was really boring. We ended up not going to the show the last 2 nights and went to karaoke instead.
Key West
Key West was much like I remembered it. Unlike the last time I was there, we took a trolley around the island since my Nana can't walk far. Basically it showed us all the important sights, but didn't stop there. When the tour ended, I was determined to go to Margaritaville, so I dragged my mom and Nana all the way down the other end of Duval Street. We had some drinks and conch fritters there and on our way back to the pier, did more shopping. We also stopped in this ice cream store because I saw a sign that said "Frozen Chocolate Covered Key Lime Pie." We were all pretty tired after that trip, purely because it was really hot.
Cozumel
Cozumel was the other stop on the trip. Unfortunately, it is just like I remembered it - mainly a dump lol. We went on this bus tour which was supposed to show us the sights (honestly, there aren't any sights in Cozumel itself). We went to this little marketplace where people hound you to buy things. I got some black coral and sterling silver there. We did more shopping in the downtown area. There was a stop at the beach where we took a few pictures.
All in all I would say this trip was relaxing, which was the point. It wasn't meant to be a trip where we hike all over the islands, especially since we've been to both. It was meant for us to sit on our balcony, sip some drinks, watch some shows, and see the Gulf of Mexico area. It wasn't the best cruise I've been on, but it was good. I think I viewed this cruise differently than the ones in the past because I am older. When I was on cruises when I was younger, I was at the teen nights and looking to make friends and meet cute boys. Now, I went on the cruise to relax and have a few drinks, and as I said, met people like Zane naturally in the process.
So now, the basic plans for this week are to do the laundry, cut the lawn, and then pack up everything again since I leave a week from tomorrow for the big trip. I'm really excited but also sad that I am going to be without John. I remember how it felt last time he was gone for 2 weeks, although I guess he's on the other end of the spectrum this time since I am the one that's busy on vacation. But, 2 days after I get home I'll be in Florida which I am slightly nervous for, but very excited :-)
Oh and Hofstra sent me a letter about all the great new things they are putting in our school. The funny thing is that I (personally) never benefit from these things. Hmm...
