Florida was very relaxing, and I'm glad, because we really needed the rest. Also, for the first time, it really felt like someplace we could live, eventually. And I'm not worried about hot summers because there's always plenty of air conditioning you could duck into. But up here in the winter it's freezing outside but a lot of places inside still feel like hell freezing over!
Work is getting weird. TOO many people have found new jobs (and one retired). My office manager is one of them, and there aren't too many like her -- you know, logical and sane. Her replacement starts November 30 so we'll see...
I'm getting in the mood for the holidays -- Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year -- pretty well but in a casual sort of way. If I could wave a wand and have lots of decorations I'd love it, but in real life I don't usually get that far. For Thanksgiving I'll just have the usual French blue tablecloth with the stoneware service with turkeys painted on them, mostly in blues and browns. They were my mother-in-law's, and I've loved them since I first came to her house and saw them, dinner plates and cups and saucers. And I remember when I was a little girl, my mother always brought out the cornucopia and arranged it with colorful gourds spilling out of it. She'd set them up about a week ahead of time, and it all fascinated me.
My favorite new tradition is the home made cranberry sauce. Just 12 ounces of fresh cranberries, 1 cup water, 1 cup sugar, boil all together until almost all the berries have popped and it thickens up. So gooooood.
