Leoben frowned when he saw Sharon although he did manage to offer Hera a small, reassuring smile. He'd been looking for them anyway to see if he could watch his niece for awhile, but now something seemed vaguely off.

"Leoben," Sharon said, seeming to come back to herself, if only for a moment. She looked over at her brother, eyes overflowing with tears, and didn't know what to say. No, it wasn't that she didn't know, it was that saying it aloud would make it official.

"Lebe!" Hera said, then, a good deal more cheerful. Being only a year and four months old, she didn't understand what was going on.

Leoben sat down beside them and waved to Hera who definitely had no idea what was going on, but in a way that was actually a relief.

He eyed the shoes briefly before setting a hand on Sharon's shoulder and lightly tugging her closer to him. There wasn't anything to say, no one statement that would it all right. Why did this always seem to be happening them?

"Y-you haven't seen Karl today, have you?" she asked in a low, shaky voice. But the arm around her was answer enough, sympathy only came when there was reason to give it. Oh, God, she wanted to tear the throat out of whoever was responsible for this, but all she could do was cry.
