My plans to finish roofing the motor home got a glitch or two in them. I tried, I really tried.
I was up there first thing Friday morning. But what I saw when we took the tarp off didn't make me happy.
Last summer I had torn up the rotten parts of the roof and replaced it with new wood. I put massive amounts of caulk all around that. Then I was faced with the problem of different heights of roof which would create pooling water, which in turn would create wet and rotting roof. So my answer to that was to cover the roof with tar paper and then put the rubber roof over that. I got as far last summer as putting on the tar paper and the under-coat. I had to wait for 70 degree weather to put on the rubber roof.
Well, water had gotten under the tarp, and soaked through the tar paper. So now the motor home was topped with wet tar paper. That wasn't going to be any help at all! So instead of spending Friday putting on a coat of rubber roof, I spent it ripping off the tar paper and putting on a new layer of under-coat. And then...
I came in the house. I could barely move. And I began to notice a sun burn. Yes, I had used sun-screen. SPF40. But on top of a white motor home roof, the sun and heat are reflected back at you. I had all of the symptoms of heat exhaustion, and one symptom of heat stroke. Michael saw the sun burn developing and went scrambling for the solarcaine. He grabbed an ice pack and put it on the back of my neck to cool me down and made me some sugar-free gator-aid type stuff (yuck!) I was so thirsty... I was drinking so much water on top of the motor home, I shouldn't have been dehydrated, but it was 90 degrees or so on the ground, so it was *hot* up there and I was working hard. I took some advil for the headache and tried to rest. But the sunburn kept getting worse. It eventually got to the point that I had to take a vicodin to get any rest. My legs are bright red and swollen. It hurts like heck to stand on them. Going to the bathroom is so fun!
So it is now Sunday and I still can't stand on my legs without massive pain. They're still swollen. Michael just covered my motor home with the tarp again because it's supposed to rain for the next week, and who knows when it will be warm again. The weather is warming up overall, so there is hope. It's just a matter of healing my stupid pale skin and getting 70 degree weather without rain. Then I can go back up there! This time maybe I'll let Michael help me so I don't have to spend so long and work so hard. I'm so stubborn sometimes!
I just always want things done exactly my way, so I do them myself. And then things like this happen....
Popeye is pleased though. She thinks since I'm just sitting around it's a good time to go for a walk. She keeps hopping in her backpack and looking at me hopefully. It's breaking my heart! *shuts eyes tight*
