I've been looking forward to this album since I ambitiously decided to pickup Kweli's sophomore album "Quality." Most know that the infamous and most notable breakthrough hip hop classic "Get By" is on that album. Since then, I've bought every Talib Kweli album, as well as his counterpart Mos Def. These two, as well as Common and The Roots, define "concious" hip hop. Despite the fact I can't get enough of the crunk shit, the "club" shit, the "gangsta" shit, or the "slow and whiney" shit, concious hip hop is probably the most relevant and creative form of music I know of. I've listened through "The Beautiful Struggle" five whole and complete times since I recieved it as a gift, last night. It's thorough, full of intelligence, and without a doubt, Talib's SECOND best album. I still believe, no matter how great another Talib album is, Reflection Eternal, his first album, will always be his best... (same applies for Nas, Jay-Z, Common, and The Notorious BIG). The thing I didn't get was, why did DJ Hi-Tek only produce one track, why does Kanye keep using the old "Get By" beat in more songs, like "I Try", track 6. "Ghetto Show" featuring Common and Anthony Hamilton (btw.. I got the Anthony Hamilton cd, it is HOT, haven't stopped playing that either, so buy it!) is so well put together. Underground princess Jean Grae shows her swagger in "Black Girl Pain." No doubt that this song will be a classic. "Around My Way" with up-and-coming R & B artist John Legend, is great. Kweli is at his best when he has a soulful beat, and a tone of "battle" in his voice, where he is voicing out his politics, views of the ghetto... in this song, and other relevant points in life. "Never Been in Love", with a beat from Just Blaze, is refreshing. It talks about Kweli's commitment issues with his wife, and is very well put. This is now the time where you go to Kazaa, Bearshare, w/e... and download the following Kweli songs of his album: "I Try", "Ghetto Show", "Black Girl Pain", "Around My Way", and "Never Been in Love". So, hopefully you get motivated enough to even download his music, b/c soon you'll realize he's better than your favorite hip hopper. Kanye's no backpacker; Talib is.
Also, it has been brought to my attention by numerous people at various points, that I "ignore" you. I won't name names, point fingers, etc... b/c I don't need to. If you really feel I'm ignoring you, give me a call, IM me, do whatever to "regain" the attention you've lost. I can't talk to everyone on AIM, I can't talk on the phone to everyone, and I certaintly won't kiss anyones ass and forge a conversation with someone. My thing is, if I don't plan on hanging out with you, have much general interest in you, or find our chemistry flowing... that I don't feel it necessary to continue talking. It's not my job to ressurect something that's been lost, and it's not anyone else's either. So, in final, if you feel it necessary to converse with me again and we haven't for a while, feel free. Did I ever cuss you out? or tell you to "stop talking to me?" Nope, never have, never will... to anyone. Don't be so self-concious; it's important to know the world's not all about you. Just me...
SIKE.
Done ranting.
KWELI '04!
peace up.
