Portsmouth Abbey Trip (we won 3-0)

Sep 19, 2004 17:41

Aight so the soccer team, including I, went to Portsmouth Abbey School, in the most BORING state of Rhode Island, this past weekend. We didn't have school on Friday, because we're the shit, and left for RI at around 10:15 from BWI, after our flight was delayed. We got there Friday around 12:30, ate, practiced (clearly our best of the season), showered/chilled the rest of the day and night. Nightlife in Portsmouth is horrible. Since freshman year's soccer trip was so tight, we expected to have a good time, but fuck no, never happened. Instead my night consisted of watching tv, playing pool and ping-pong. See that might sound tight if you like went to someones house or something, but we were stuck doing that, from 3:30 until 9:30(SO BOOOOOOOOORING). Apparently, because the school has a half day of school on Saturdays, their students were in Study Hall. The only highlight of the night was probably my convo with Alexis on the phone, who was also bored out've town somewhere. Anyhow, once their students were out've study hall, they came down and gave us some odd ass looks, although we were the hottest 17 guys to ever come to their school. I guess cuz we were using all their shit when it was the big 30 minute break time. Then at 10, we had to return to the dorms, meet our roommate(s), and go to bed. My roommate, Andrew Brainnerd, was a character. First off, his name "Brainnerd" just let me know this guy wasn't the prototype cool guy to chill with, but also he was so damn geeky and his feet stunk, as one guy let everyone know at the Portsmouth/St. Anselm's guys meeting before we had to go to sleep. SO, instead of staying with Brainnerd, I stayed with this guy Andre and Isidore. Despite a crammed room, whree my head was in the closet and feet out by the door while sleeping, the guy was much cooler. After hours of chattin, we finally passed out at around 12:30.

On Saturday, most woke up from the severe downpour from Ivan. The team had breakfast at 8, then practice from 9-10 in their gym, lunch at 12, and game started at 1:30. Because of the terrible playing conditions, the game was shortened to two, 25 minute halves.

During the game, we started out flying down the flanks and through the middle. Portsmouth had troubles containing our speedy players, with skilled touch, and literally barely any major mistakes despite a flooded field. Scott started out the scoring the a nice hip shot, it wasn't luck, off a corner. Then Stefano completed the half with 2 goals, including a breakwaway after my 50 yard through ball, skilly fully placed to his right foot, in stride while sprinting (ok i'll stop). In the second half, neither team scored but play was still controlled by us. I was pleasantly surprised when my sister and her bf showed up with about 20 minutes left. She goes to college in Boston so it was a short drive. After the game we ate, playing ping-pong and pool, basketball then they left to head back to MIT. After that, I ate dinner with the team and went to Mass.

Saturday night in Portsmouth was a little better. Some of the girls shyness left them and they began approaching many of us in numbers. Me, Isidore, and Scott met Llenna (sp?), Laura, Christine, and a girl i'll just call Kim. We left campus with the first two, out've hunger for something beside Pasta, the only thing that school serves their students. We went to a Mobile gas station then got back, and chilled somemore. The night seemed to fly quickly surprisingly, then we headed back to the dorms and went to sleep at around 12:30.

Sunday morning, we had to be out in front of their gym by 5:45 AM for our 8:15 flight out've Providence. Finally we left...
The trip can be summed up by Eamon's quote:
"What the fuck were they thinking when they made such a boring school?" -Eamon

Now I have a shitload of HW to do, Payce.
