Happy Halloween. My present to you is a photo documented encounter with the supernatural!

Near Saarwellingen in the woods about a half-mile from where I'm living there's this nice little shrine, it's basically the back-wall of a ruined chapel that somebody put a statuette in. I'm not Catholic but I like to visit the site, there's a certain presence that I feel when I'm there- and it's comforting. Here's a picture.

That was totally irrelevant.

Well not entirely, because in those same woods last week I made a discovery! One day I was walking along in the woods and I came across a fenced off area- so naturally I jumped the fence and took a look around. I quickly discovered that I was stumbling around on-top of the ruins of a subterranean bunker system! So naturally I was intrigued, and continued looking around at the concrete ruins that cropped up here and there over a large area. I was following a long depression in the ground, I assumed a collapsed under-ground hallway, when a bit of the earth below my feet gave way! I kicked at the earth and realized that there was a huge crack in the concrete at that point. More earth gave way, and as I peered down into the gloom I realized that despite the apparent collapse of the ceiling there was still enough room down in the bunker to walk around!

I knew that I had to explore the bunker, but I also knew that it was pitch-black down there and I needed a light source. So I made a couple bad decisions; the first, I descended into the bunker, the second, I decided to use the flash on my camera to find my way around in the darkness. The benefit of being forced to use my flash to get around was that I took a bunch of pictures, the downside of course was that I was only able to see every six seconds, and while the flash was recharging I had nothing. B- rate horror movie right here.

So this is the first picture I took, as I descended into the bunker.

Once I was down in the bunker I found myself in the middle of what appeared to be a long hallway, it was pitch black on both sides. A lot of earth and leaves had fallen into the passage when the ceiling had collapsed, but as I turned left and stepped down i realized that the concrete floor was already covered in a thin layer of earth. I also felt a draft, so I knew that there was another opening somewhere.

My entrance.

So first I headed left, I soon realized that every fifty feet or so there was steel framed doorway on the right side of the hallway. Through each doorway was a small room with nothing in it, save rubble on the floor.

After about a hundred and fifty feet I found the source of the draft- a crack in the ceiling, there were leaves on the floor and dim light filtering through from above.

Twenty feet beyond that point the corridor was blocked completely by concrete rubble and twisted steel.

So I turned back the way I came, and headed in the opposite direction. At the first junction I came across something happened- something that was unexplainable at the time. I felt a hand clamp down on my right shoulder, I was in complete darkness and so naturally freaked out. I swung-out with my right elbow, and succeeded in smashing it into the concrete wall. There was nobody there, and as I stopped to listen I realized that I hadn't heard anything fall to the floor. At that point the hair stood on end and I was officially creeped out. I must have been in shock, because instead of turning back I continued on- taking pictures the whole time.

I explored the room and found the remains of an old wooden bed, what appeared to have once been a table, and place in the wall for a phone.

After exiting the room I headed a little farther down the hallway, where it broadened a little and then ended- I assume where the old entrance had collapsed.

So I returned to where I had initially entered the bunker and got out of there in a hurry. I was beginning to rationalize what had happened in the bunker, but I was still really creeped out. It wasn't until I got back home and was reviewing my pictures that I realized that I had experienced something down there. The both of the pictures below were taken in the corridor at the junction, moments after I felt the hand on my shoulder. In both pictures you can see a defect in the picture- a blurr.

A ghost amigos. A ghost.
And this is where I live.

Happy Halloween von Deutschland!
