I took the first one.

But I have a question, forgive me if I sound totally internet ignorant.

So I read on some other icon post about crediting the icon and it talked about when you save the pic to your computer. I haven't been doing that, I've been entering the URL instead to use the icons. Is that bad? Am I hotlinking/ using up bandwidth or something (another thing I don't really get)?

Yes, you're hotlinking. Save em to your comp and upload them from there. :)
