Row, row, row your boat

Well, today my dears I am here to talk about shipping. One of the major aspects of fandom-ism, which consist of pairing one person from the series with another in a romantic view.

There are many arguments that may take place when you "ship" a pairing. There is always compatibility, sexuality, prefences, convenience (like how often they get to talk, interact, etc), and, well, physical appeal I suppose.

To me, any pairing can be shipped successfully if: a) they have a good dynamic that is presented in canon or b) they WOULD have a good dynamic, even if it is not shown in canon and c) a believable (according to canon) event occurs that would bring to light their romantic dynamic or possible interest. It all starts with one action, really. Take two characters, put them in a situation that would make sense according to their universe, and play it out. It isn't that hard. All it takes is one conversation between the two or one action to take place that would spark the beginnings of a romantic relationship.

And that's if it's not crack. If it's crack, then, well, anything goes, amirite?

My recipe for a good shipfic or whatever ignores two aspects of shipping that I have named: convenience and sexuality. Most of the time, a character's sexuality is not released in canon, though vaguely hinted at by the writers to annoy and appease the fans. Even if a person is married, they can still find a person of the same gender attractive, as they could either be lying to themselves or bisexual, unless it is stated clearly in the canon. You can never know for certain unless it is officially stated because you don't know how they could react to certain events in canon because it never happened.

Now when I refer to convenience, I mostly mean how much the character has interacted in canon. Most people tend to ship the main hero with the main heroine, right? Just because you see their relationship the most and thus would think of it as logical to pair them up together.

But I am sure that there are other characters that intearct well, or would if they had the chance. this is the main reason behind fics, people, get with the program! lol. With a fic, you can do whatever you want, but what makes it good is whether or not it is believable.

Now for something a little more personal, while I am at it, I might as well state my own ships, huh? (btw, the first name mentioned is not the "top" or the "seme"; I'm too lazy for things like that. Italics for Fandom's OTP)
