Turmoil-a state of great commotion, confusion, or disturbance; tumult; agitation; disquiet.
There are times when everything seems to be falling your way. Or against you. For the most part, these times represent the peaks and valleys of life. Too often we forget to fully embrace the time we spend at the mountain top and let ourselves get overwhelmed by the sight from the basin. That's how we spend so much of our lives. The rest is filled in with enduring the journeys down and back up.
But what if we looked at things differently? What would the outcome be? Would we be happier? Be more fulfilled? Be more depressed? In short, yes. This is the way it's always been done, so why change? My question, why not? I want to try looking at life from the valleys and smiling. I want to feel overwhelmed staring up at the mountain with the rain in my eyes and be happy. You see, I've always done it a certain way. And while I won't complain as my situation is far more advantageous than so many others, I can complain while I'm in the valley. It just doesn't add up. Conquering the mountains comes too few and too far in this journey. The pinnacles are just that, small little areas to stand on and bask in the glory. The basins are vast and littered with obstacles and land mines.
So that's where turmoil rears it's head. Instead of worrying about the obstacles that impede us or the mine we just stepped on, why not find happiness in the obstacle we surmount, the mines we circumvent? If you're willing to change the way you react to things, maybe the way you see things will change too. Thus, when turmoil comes, you face it head on, filled with happiness and confidence from the impediments of the past and not the overwhelming stature of the valley and the mountain in front of you.
