I think the next time ANY GODDAMN WOMAN says to me "Oh, you're on your period? Boo fucking hoo, grow up," I will take off my underwear, shove the stain in her face, and say "This? Is because I didn't change my tampon every 30 FUCKING minutes to hour. I am in PAIN you fucktwit, and the only reason I am even UPRIGHT is breathing control and ( Read more... )

Uhm-- hoping to be helpful and sympathetic somewhat with this, late though it may be (just stumbled across your blog from an old fic!)-- and I dunno if you'll ever see this.

I've never had periods quite as bad as all that you described, but I've had times myself when I thought my period was going to kill me by making me so light-headed I was going to faint while walking across the street and get me hit by a car or something-- but I digress.

Any woman who has the gall to say to you that your monthly curse isn't suffering of the highest order is an utter )(*&^*^ IDIOTIC FOOL, and my sympathies for having to deal with said fools, disgraces to the vaunted higher EQ women supposedly possess.

Could it be the tampons? Tampons may actually create irritation leading to inflammation in the canal; some people just aren't quite suited to wearing tampons for some reasons. Though since you've been wearing tampons presumably for a long while now, it probably isn't that. But that doesn't mean there's no inflammation either. Perhaps you could try wearing extra-maxi sized or night use pads (sanitary towels) or something and see if it helps? Towels are less invasive and less conducive to infection, which can lead to endometriosis which someone mentioned earlier.

You might in addition to extra calcium from dairy products also want to consider taking a daily supplement of evening primrose oil-- EPO has gamma linoleinic acid present, which helps to regulate hormones. There are EPO supplements mixed with a Chinese herb called dong quai (sorry if you already know what it is anyway) available: dong quai has been used by Chinese women for generations to help with irregular periods and hormones as well as to strengthen the reproductive systems. I recommend Kordell's or Blackmore's as reputable brands. You could also try eating more omega-3 and omega-6 rich foods such as fish for general health, along with B vitamins-- Vitamin B12 is good for inflammation. Regular mild exercise, regular sleep cycles and balanced diet are the best: hormones sound out of whack in your case, and it might help.

Finally when all else fails-- I take lots and lots of hot showers, fill the heat packs and hole up with lots of chocolate. No cold stuff like ice cream though-- Asian tradition holds that ice and cold foods make things worse when it comes to period cramps and bleeding. And from personal experience: avoid raw peanuts-- and never have peanut soup. Peanuts drive periods crazy for me-- bleeding gets worse. I swear it is no coincidence my first ever period came the day after my mum fed me peanut soup on the advice of other relatives as a means to increase my height: it simply stunted my growth worse due to precocious pubescence.
