So proper update now going as far back as last week due to general busyness...
Returned the ipod which many in my circles consider yet another act of madness on my part. Hopefully I can legitimate my reasons by explaining why. Firstly, I had a fourth generation IPOD in U2 theme, which is all well and lovely, and I admit that I bought it for the sake of having one. However if anybody decided to use their brains they will find that allot of factors have to be taken into account....An important factor is battery life which may sound petty but trust me there is no point in having 40gb of music files if ur only going to get to track 12. Additional features is another thing (after all they are expensive and u expect to get your moneys worth), the Ipod completely falls on its arse here.
Yes it's easy to use and it has a rather nice and basic Mac interface but erm....u eventually feel really cheated. Thirdly, I don't find the ipod sexy at all... I mean the design team have to be commended for the genius of drawing a white rectangle and erm lets go against all colour co-ordination and make the headphones white.. White to me doesn’t translate as sexy, to me it means "gets dirty easily". Yes it offers many different space alternatives but a 20gb player and does the job quite easily with a reduced bit rate.. Can u seriously tell the difference between a 192kb bit rated file from a 128/60? Lots say u gets increased quality from an increased bitrate..BOLLOX. Actually I find that a 320kb bit rate tends to cause distortion and only benefits from an increase in volume (which can be substituted with a nice pair of bass tolerant headphones)...
So what did I exchange it for? The 'Creative Zen Touch'. It's only slightly heavier than the ipod but it has much better battery life and I find the sound quality to be much better. Secondly, Creative products tend to be fantastic. I have an Audigy Platinum sound card on my system and the clarity and stability is awesome.
Mind u the ipod dissing aside, the U2 player did look quite sexy but as I hide it in my coat pocket its pointless concerning myself with its aesthetic value...
BIFFY CLYRO GIG
I have to say I'm a recent convert to this band after hearing both their albums and being incredibly impressed. 'Liberate The Illiterate A Mong Among Mingers' was my first introduction on my home audio system and my eyes jumped outta my sockets at the quality of guitar work and production. I went to the gig last Sunday feeling pretty hung over from Saturday nights Christmas party.. I spent the most of Sunday afternoon watching back the Baby shambles gig from the Limelight the night before (explain that another time) on VT. However Biffy Clyro the live experience was that evening.. Did I enjoy? Personally I found it to be quite average despite the fact the Belfast audience really did themselves proud in terms of generating atmosphere.. I was at the front of the crowd so I was in a good position to access the performance. The guitars were out of time and the drummer appeared to be on sumthin. My uncle Eamon (producer of that new hot band 'The Answer') agreed with my analysis. However I’m not deterred. Some bands are studio bands whilst others are live bands (The Beatles were studio artists as opposed to live artists whilst the stones were more of a live band). However I must note that Clyro played at this same venue on the 4th and apparently that gig went down a storm....
Can I just say........MORRISSEY NEXT MONDAY :p this will be the highlight of my life and to make things much sadder Im actually travelling with a bunch of Gladioli and an old hearing aid (in tribute of his Smiths days). I literally have cramps and butterflies thinking about it and have tucked the full Morrissey back catalogue on my player (as well as the pivotal Smiths albums) in order to catch up.
Alas work to finish and cards to post off today to certain people ;) A thank you to you Mr Turner for card and futureheads prezzie....really appreciated it even though Orla didn’t get the joke of the 1st Birthday card to which I had to fill her in (so to speak).. :P I’m actually keeping the Futureheads record for Damien for when he is older so I can say his Uncle Paul in London gave it to him, hope u don’t mind :)
Anyway.....Love and Glares
Paul..
ps.. Remember, pinch the top, and roll down...advice that should be heeded. hahahahahahahaha _ _ _
