Flogging Molly = <3.
The show was last night and David's sister Caitlin took me, David, and Poulos. We saw Tracy, Taryn and Gac there, plus a slew of other people we know, including some bandos. Stephanie, Jake and I were discussing skipping band practice today on account of being unable to hear properly.
First opener was this gypsy punk crew called Gogol Bordello (a bordello is a place where men go and pay for women's "services," so... yeah) and they had two sufficiently creepy Asian women on stage dancing and playing washboards with them. I liked them anyway. Their music was very entertaining and danceable, and I looked them up and found out that the frontman's accent is Ukranian (just like Maria!). They're quite the originals, they are.
Throw Rag. They went on a little long. I kept waiting for them to end so Flogging Molly would start. But I can't say they weren't good. They were. We congradulated the frontman at the end, and he gave David a patch.
Okay, okay, so finally - finally - it was time for Flogging Molly. They were FANTASTIC. I was in the front for the first two songs, getting squished, breaking my ribs, getting other people's sweat rubbed all over me, learning what it must feel like to have asthma, etc. But then I moved off to the side a bit and had not only an exceptional view, but also breathing room (!!). So I stayed there pretty much the rest of the time and every once in a while Nick or David would run past to get back in the pit after crowdsurfing and hug me or something. They played all the good stuff - "Tobacco Island," "Seven Deadly Sins," "Devil's Dance Floor," "Drunken Lullabies," "Selfish Man." I had such a fun time. I was dancing and bouncing around and screaming lyrics and sweating and just loving it. It was so worth the $19.50 I didn't spend on Warped this year. I'd rather have seen this. They even came back for an encore and played "Within a Mile of Home" and "What's Left of the Flag."
Afterwards, Nick and David were soaked and Nick was courteous enough to rub his fucking gross shirt on my arm, thank you very much. There was a guy running around the parking structure so completely drunk he could hardly stand and he was coming up to our windows and going, "You guys look like you need some shots!" and Caitlin was like, "Oh no, we're going to end up seeing him on the news." Then we went to 7-11 and got Slurpees and David told me about how he applied for a job at Cinnabon.
I'm so happy I went.
