Hello Guys!

I hope everyone is doing well.

For those of you who don't know me, I am a former self-injurer.  I cut for a while but as of January 18th I have been clean for 3 years (I can't believe time went by that quickly).

Anyway, in a few weeks I will be competing in a beauty pageant (I can't believe it either).  As a platform, I have taken on Awareness about Depression and Bipolar Disorder and I figured you guys could help me figure out what I want to say since many people suffer from the depression.

So here's my question: What is one thing you would want the world to know about Depression/Bipolar Disorder?  And what is the thing keeping you from getting help?  Is it because there's a stigma?  Is it because you don't believe that therapy/medication will really help?

I know what my answers are.  I would just like to get some other opinions.  For me, I would like everyone to know that depression is not a sign of weak character.  It is an illness and one that I cannot help.  What kept me from getting help for so long was that it is difficult to explain what's wrong when you feel depressed.  It's easy to tell someone you don't feel well because you're nauseous or have a headache.  It is really difficult to explain to someone that you feel like you're being overwhelmed by the world and you just feel sad.

So what are your opinions?  What do you feel?

Thank you in advance for any input and good luck to those of you trying to quit.  It's hard but if I could do it anyone can.
