More Than Enough
By: White Rain
Disclaimer: I do not own Bleach.
Pairing: pre-Tatsuki/Orihime.
Notes: I haven't got a chance to catch up on Bleach for about ten chapters, so if this fic contradicts anything that has happened in canon, I'm sorry. I do hope I kept them in character at least.
Summary: Orihime finally telling Orihime about all that's happened since saving Rukia leads to a fear/confession on Orihime's part.
“And,” Orihime said, spreading out her arms, “Kurosaki-san dove into tower in a big balloon,” her face twisted up and she bended over, making a buzzing sound in the back of her throat, “And saved me from his evil step-father!”
Tatsuki was more than used to the way Orihime recounted events, so she didn't even blink when Orihime went on about how she was saved from Aizen, starting with 'there is an evil lizard who wants to rule the world as a dinosaur.'
“They didn't hurt you?”
Orihime shook her head as she plopped down on the bed next to Tatsuki, “No. They wanted to keep me alive for some reason.”
Tatsuki considered asking if Orihime knew what that reason was, but decided against it quickly. It was enough that Orihime, that someone, was finally talking to her.
“And are you okay?” Tatsuki said, knowing Orihime would understand the profound difference this question was from the first
Orihime's smile dropped and she lowered her head.
Tatsuki narrowed her eyes and set her hand on Orihime's shoulder, and the worry and panic that had she had been living with for several moments seemed to grow sharper. “Orihime...”
“When Kuchiki-san trained me she said that I hurt my friends more when I didn't say the whole truth of my feelings, or worse, deny them.” Her voice was low and cracking and her shoulders were shaking. Tatsuki could tell she was about to cry, and her eyes instinctively lowered to see if her hands were clenching the sheets. Orihime often clenched something when she was about to cry.
This time was no different. Nor was the feeling of helplessness Tatsuki felt when Orihime cried about something Tatsuki couldn't fix by kicking someone's ass. She only closed her eyes tightly for a second before setting her hand on Orihime's chin and gently lifted up her head.
“I shouldn't cry,” Orihime said, her eyes still fixed to the ground. “I'm safe now. I'm stronger now and can help my friends.”
“But,” Tatsuki prodded, about to tilt her head in order to look in Orihime's eyes.
She didn't have to, Orihime suddenly looked directly into Tatsuki's eyes. “Keigo told me what happened with you and Kurosaki-san. I hurt you.”
Tatsuki couldn't think of a time she'd ever been more aware of someone else. It wasn't just that she noticed the split ends in Orihime's hair, because it hadn't been trimmed in months, or how pale her skin looked. It was something else she couldn't describe and it seemed to sink into the air around them.
“I don't think I would have been able to tell you at first either, if I was in your place,” Tatsuki said.
Orihime didn't say anything, she only smiled. And that was more than enough.
