Hisagi and Kira definitely weren't in love or anything.
They simply met after having finished their duties to go drinking, or walk through one of the parks, or something else.
They didn't talk much while doing this, just sat beside each other or walked next to the other one in a form of silent understanding.
It were these times when both of them slipped out of their masks. No longer needing to be the respective, loyal fuku-taichou, no longer needing to be perfect.
They really liked being around each other...
As friends, of course.
They could sit next to each other on a park bench for hours without saying a single word and then parting ways relieved as if they had talked about all their problems.
That was unique about the other one and that was also the reason why Abarai was never allowed to join them. With Renji, they could fight, and drink themselves senseless, but Abarai couldn't sit in silence for more than ten minutes.
So the two of them stayed allone and beared the teasing they recieved.
But all things have to change someday. Even that.
Kira had been away for about 2 weeks, because missions kept him busy and outside of the Society, and when he returned he was even more quiet than before.
When he met with Hisagi for the first time he didn't say a single word, neither about the mission, nor about everything else.
He stayed like that for about 3 days and Hisagi started to worry about his friend. He had missed Kira...missed him a lot...missed him even more than he should miss a friend.
Because Kira was nothing more to him, wasn't he?
He hadn't been able to think about another person than Kira lately.
When he had had time off, he would sit at home and wait for him to come back from that damn mission of his.
And now he was back and wouldn't talk to him. He even avoided any physical touch, even though they had shared them generous beforehand.
Also Kira didn't let his mask slip now...not even an instant.
And that was, what really bothered Hisagi, because he loved the way Kira was without his masks. The Kira was the one he liked to spend time with, the Kira he liked to meet even when he was to tired to walk properly.
But now. After spending the evening with Kira, he felt even more tense than beforehand.
Another two days later Hisagi waited for Kira at the agreed time at the entrance of the park, but Kira didn't come.
Having waited for an hour Hisagi decided to go looking for Kira. He wondered how to find him, but this was pretty easy.
Just when he left the park he saw him, standing there an indecisive look on his face.
But that expression changed the moment he saw Hisagi. Because then Kira turned around and wanted to run away.
Hisagi catched him nonetheless and held him tight.
At first Kira tried to struggle agains that hold, but his friends had always been stronger than him, ao he relaxed agains Hiagis body and sighted, supressing the emotions welling up inside of him.
Hisagi looked at Kira thoughtfully. The younger one looked something between happy and sad.
Slowly Hisagi realised the other one had dressed up, if just a bit. His whole appearance was showed a silent grace and in his hand, Hisagi now realized, was something that resemled a present.
Kira didn't look into Hisagis eyes, but kept his eyes trained to the floor and waitet what would happen now.
It took a while, but then Hisagi asked: “Why didn't you come into the park?”
Kira hesitated a few moments and then said: “I didn't dare to...”
The look on Hisagis face grew even more puzzled and he placed a hand on Kiras face and gently made him look at him. “Why that? What should have happened?”
Kira bit his lower lip and looked into Hisagis eyes, seeing the look of concern there. He sighted: “I wondered, what you'd say...”
“About what?”, if possible, Hisagis expression grew more puzzled.
“That...”, Kira said. Again he looked away and held out the wrapped up thing.
Slowly Hisagi took the present and slowly the pieces fell into place. “You wondered what I'd say about your present?”
The younger one nodded, his face having turned a light shade of pink, still biting his lower lip.
“Why so?”, Hisagi asked, slowly opening the present. It was a book they had talked about before the other one had left.
This made the older shinigami smile. “Thank you Kira.” He hugged the other one and felt relived about the fact, that the other one was himself now.
Kira smiled and hugged him back, enjoying the feeling of being close to the one he loved.
Because he did love Hisagi. He had realized that in those weeks spend apart. He just hoped Hisagi wouldn't notice it and then turn him down.
Hisagi himself was just happy to receive such a prestent from the one he loved.
Because he did love Kira. That had become more and more obvious over the past few days. But he wouldn't tell Kira so, because then the other one would turn away from him.
So everything was back to normal...almost. Because now, when they slipped out of their divisition-mask, they slipped into the masks of just friends. And these masks were well hidden from each other.
