Hook Material

While in Sealed With A Kiss, in Guthrie, Oklahoma this week, I ran across some abalone hooks. I've never seen them before (ok, I live a sheltered life). They were curved all along the handle - I assume that's the way the grain of the shell goes, so the manufacturers used that to preserve the strength of the handle. They were $14. I wish I'd been able to get one. I don't know how they are to use, but they were bright and shiny *g* Has anyone ever worked with one of these? Or something else that has a curved hook? I have no idea how much relearning you'd have to do to hold/work with one of these properly. So now I've seen abalone, bamboo, birch, mixed hardwood, plastic, steel, aluminum, and mixed plastic and aluminum. What other materials have you seen hooks made from? What's the wackiest material you've seen a hook made from? What are they like to use? What are the benefits and problems with using the different materials?

ldys, hooks
