Here's the rest of the post, plus all the videos, from the Ladies Rock Camp Alumni Show. This is video-heavy, so I stuffed them all under the cut.
It was fun getting excited about playing again. It was fun being with people who get excited about playing, and not totally bogged down in everything having to be perfect. It was fun to see people I hadn't seen since the last Rock Camp, and to meet new people too.
I know some of the bands practiced a lot more than mine, and that's okay. They had more members already in town, or were better players to begin with, or were just better organized. We had that whole snafu with our guitarist, plus the other three of us just had Real Life Stuff going on the two weeks before the show. As it goes. Because we only really put things together over the 36 hours or so before the show, plus working out about half the original song, it really felt like the whole LRC experience - except for having a band coach! About halfway through practice on Saturday, we were all asking where our band coach was! Then we remembered we are Resourceful! Creative! and got ourselves unstuck, and made ourselves a song!
The show itself was great. We were in a huge-for-us space, with a total of about 8 audience members who weren't in one band or another (somebody's parents, somebody's nearly-adult kids, a couple of spouses/partners). I and a couple of other people got smart and pulled most of the chairs from the sides of the venue into the middle, so all the people who wanted to sit would at least look like an audience - everyone kept sitting down or leaning against the walls, leaving the whole "audience" space empty! Bleah!
We had no official roadies - some of the LRC Alumni brought all the gear we used (amps, PA, mics, all that), and their owners managed all the equipment. It made for some interesting transitions from set to set.
Michael was totally a hero - he volunteered to film the whole show. I'm pretty sure a couple of other people took video too, but from the sides or some other less-optimal vantage point. Michael found a support post almost right in front of the stage and attached his GoPro to it. He managed to get everything but the final jam session before the battery ran out.
The organizer made everyone dog tags for the event
Someone else scored us all some swag
