Summer garden survey

I recently did a summer garden photo survey. Not super-fancy photos, mostly just to help keep a record of what we've got going in the yard. It's been helpful to track the edibles we've grown as well as keep on track with the backyard project ( Read more... )

Having water restrictions definitely changes things. Is it possible to use water leftover from cooking or rinsing things in the kitchen to water the strawberries? I don't remember how big the berry patch is.

The sunflower is a one-off. Over the last couple of years, none of the sunflowers we plant sprout, as the birds & critters get the seeds, and it's hard to start plants in the house because of the cats. The flowers we do get are birdseed that gets dropped and manages to escape the juncos & mice. This year, that's the only sunflower we have. (psst - it's also barely four feet tall. it just looks impressive against everything else!)

The orange raspberries aren't goldens - they're Creeping Raspberry. The red ones (not sure if there's a picture of them or not) are from a dwarf, thornless bush I only started seeing this year. The handful of fruit I've had from it has been really good, with a slight vanilla undertone. I haven't grown other kinds because I'm not interested in dealing with the thorns or cutting back the canes. But man ( ... )
